I am often asked this question but how should I answer? It really
depends on where, and especially, when I am. This much I can tell you. I
am one of the Salien. I suppose I am a significant member of the Chosen.
I have never felt that way. You see, my position and my significance
were not of my own making. I know there are many who would argue this
point but that is how I have always seen it. I am "special" among a
group of very special individuals simply due to my birth and my
bloodlines. My status and my duties and my responsibilities could have
been born by any one of the Aesir. But my mother was Estel, the Keeper
of the Caledon Crystal, and I am her heir and the task fell to me.
I see you are still confused. It is
not in my nature to be mysterious but it is my duty. I must protect the
Crystal at all costs, my life included. However, the Crystal is more
than a physical manifestation of Time. It is brought to life by the
Keeper. My lifeblood is the Crystal's lifeblood, my heartbeat is the
Crystal's heartbeat. Without a Keeper, the power of the Crystal is
diminished. So my life is sacred to the Salien. It is true, I have faced
death more times than I can count. But rest assured, if my life has been
on the line a number of Salien will have fallen before me. If my life is
lost, all of time and all of history, your life would be lost too. |
