The Races and People of the Salien |

|
The Salien are the "Chosen" (from Salir which means "To Choose"). There are seven races or Peoples of the Salien, each with its own history and culture. The races of the Salien have been bound together for tens of thousands of years. The seven races are - The Elegia ("elves"), the Evadam ("humans"), the Pumilla ("dwarves"), the Libertusa ("goblins"), the Pauladama ("little people" or "Paulings"), the Verdadama ("leprechauns"), and the Eximia ("giants"). _________________________________________ Eo Elegia (Elves) The Elegia are the most ancient members of the Salien. The Elegia are also one of the two immortal* races of the Salien. Elegia are always either Guldahartas or Reyvensenas. They are expert craftsman and exercise their powers through their craft. They do not do "spells" and rarely carry wands. They are the natural historians of the Salien and are known for their wisdom. Elegia are tall and thin with long flowing hair. The Elegia have never had a member fight for Caerth Malus. There are three types of Elegia - the Aratele, the Ossele, and the Errele. The Aratele are the "Exalted" or "High" elves. They come from the most ancient Elegia families and are considered the wisest of all of the Salien. The Ossele are the "Sea Elves". They are explorers and expert sailors. The Errele are the "Wandering Elves". They have spent the many ages wandering the earth. It was the Errele who first settled in Ociderian. _____________________________________________ Eo Evadama (Humans) The Evadama are the most numerous members of the Salien. The Evadama are spread amongst all four Houses of the Salien (Guldahartas, Revensenas, Valenkinas, and Humelfletas). Evadama are often considered the most powerful of the Salien. All Evadama carry wands. Evadama are also the easiest to corrupt. A number of Evadama have betrayed the Salien and joined the forces of Caerth Malus. It was an Evadama, Aratar, who founded the Salien. Aratar's line was the most exalted and ancient of the Lines of Men, stretching back over tens of thousands of years. Aratar led the Salien to Ociderian when the land they lived in was taken over by forces of evil. Aratar's line led to Dyves, an Evadam, who married Isilya, an Aratele Elegia. They had three sons - Viggo, Horatius, and Casus. Viggo founded the House of the Valenkina and Horatius the House of the Humelfleta. Their direct descendents are the Dyvil, the highest of the Evadam. The Aesir are those Evadama who belong to the other, non-Dyvil, ancient families of the Evadama - including those who joined Aratar. The Magies are the lesser of the Evadama. They were rewarded with powers by the Dyvil. _____________________________________________ Eo Pumilla (Dwarves) The Pumilla are the third of the ancient races of the Salien. They are divided among two tribes - the Ebius ("Black") dwarves and the Narya ("Red") dwarves (distinguished by their hair color). Pumilla are most often Humelfletas, though they have members who are Reyvensenas and Guldahartas. Pumilla are craftsman and tenacious fighters. They carry wands but are limited in their use of spells. They stand about five feet tall. Two centuries ago, most of the Black Dwarves joined Caerth Malus' forces. _____________________________________________ Eo Libertusa (Goblins) The Libertusa are the "Free". They are one of the ancient races of the Salien. They are also immortal*. There is only one Libertusa tribe. The Libertusa were created as slaves and used as foot soldiers by an ancient force of evil. When their master was destroyed, the remaining Libertusa were freed. Unsure of what to do with their freedom and coming from a culture of war, the Libertusa fought a Civil War that lasted for one hundred years. The victorious Libertusa established a peaceful society. Eventually they joined forces with the Salien and were granted Powers. Most Libertusa are Guldahartas, though some are Reyvensenas. They carry wands and have the full powers of the Salien. The Libertusa are most known for their courage, fighting skills, and loyalty. Though Caerth Malus has long tried to recruit the Libertusa, a Libertusa has never fought for Caerth Malus, though many have been killed in the service of the Salien. _____________________________________________ Eo Pauladama (Paulings) The Pauladama are the "half-size humans". They are the last of the ancient races of the Salien. They are close in kinship to full-size Evadama. They are spread among all four Houses. They stand about four and one half feet tall. The Pauladama were granted Powers by the ancestors of Aratar. They have full Salien powers and carry wands. Their fun loving nature masks a fierce fighting spirit. There are four tribes of Pauladama based on ancient family lines. A few Pauladama have defected to Caerth Malus, though not for several thousand years. Those who still fight on the side of evil are the descendents of the defectors. _____________________________________________ Eo Eximia (Giants) The Eximia are all descendents of the single Giant tribe who remained loyal to the Salien (many Giant tribes fight for Caerth Malus). As a reward, they were given Powers. All Eximia are either Guldahartas or Reyvensenas with only one (extended) family of Valenkinas. Eximia are never Humelfletas. Giants are fierce warriors. They carry a staff in place of a wand but have limited Powers. _____________________________________________ Eo Verdadamas (Leprechauns) The Verdadamas were the last of the races to join the Salien. Courageous despite their small stature (three and one half feet on average), the Verdadamas were driven out of their home by a Firenga (a fire dragon). Glindril, Son of Glinda Guldaharta, fought and destroyed the Firenga. As a token of their appreciation, the Verdadamas bestowed their sole Treasure upon Glindril, an ancient Horn with magical powers. Glindril then elevated the Verdadamas to the Salien and gave them full Powers. It was the Verdadamas who retrieved Glindril's body after he fought Caerth Malus. Most Verdadamas are Valenkinas or Guldahartas, though some are Reyvensenas. A few Verdadamas have defected to Caerth Malus but all of these defections were before the death of Glindril. All Verdadamas fear fire. _____________________________________________ * A note about immortality - The immortal races do not die of "natural causes" or old age. They do not age at all once they have grown to "adulthood" (around 200 -300 years). Immortals CAN be killed and they can choose to forsake their immortality, at which point they will live out a "normal" Evadam lifespan and then die. |
